Mac Mini, core 2 duo, 80gig HD, upgraded memory to 3gig(not needed). Boot camp, Windows 7 Pro.
I got my mac mini to be a media center (Home Theater) system which will serve video from my home server. I did not plan on having any media on my mac mini, hence the small unit with the 80 gig HD. The result was / is very good. This will play DVD quality video in an upscale, 720p resolution, smoothly and cleanly. When Windows 7 came out I wanted to try Windows Media Center but didn't want to put a big box mid Tower in the family room. I wanted a small inconspicuous foot print. It took me a while to realize I already had such a unit, the Mac Mini! Duh…. So the project was started.
There are two ways to go about this, One is to run a windows application with in Mac os-x, but that wouldn’t work here, I needed to run the operating system with minimal overhead. So this leads to the second option, install Windows 7 to run natively. There are two ways to do this. Format the HD by over writing the mac OS, or use a product included in the mac os called boot camp. The advantage to using Boot Camp is you can keep the Apple OS and all the programs you already have. I liked this option better so, now the install path is set.
I started Boot camp in OS-X, which asked me how much HD space do I want to use for the new operating system… Since I only had an 80 gig HD, chose 30 gig. Boot camp took about 30 seconds to finish that task and was ready to reboot. I put the Windows 7 install DVD in the drive and started the reboot.
The Windows 7 install screen started and the install was on. This went smoothly with no problems. After the install was complete and new drivers were automatically downloaded, Windows 7 wanted to reboot one more time. After this last reboot I was presented with a fully functional Windows 7 OS. There was a problem with the audio driver, which I had read about during my research for this project so I put the Apple OS DVD (Leopard in my case) in the DVD and windows found boot camp. I started boot camp windows version, it installed the drivers for windows 7 / Vista) and after one more reboot I had my Windows 7 running on a mac mini. All in all rather painless. Windows Media Center works great and I even put a Media center plug in called “My Movies” and made it even better. Now I can watch movies video and more on my big screen TV with Media Center on my mac mini! Nice

The following link is to a store I purchased memory upgrade for my mac. At the bottom of the page they have links to "How to" video's These were very valuable to me in the upgrade process.
